Growing in Faith

There are multiple opportunities for growing in faith at Saint Stephen. People of all ages will find many ways to learn more about the Christian faith and what it means to follow Jesus.

Kids Word Worship

Kids Word Worship “KW2” takes place every Sunday during the 10:00 a.m. worship service. Children through 5th grade go downstairs following the children’s sermon and return to the service for Holy Communion. KW2 teachers provide a lesson based on the Sunday lectionary texts.

Faith Followers Club

The Faith Followers Club incorporates stories, crafts, music, drama, cooking, and more into a program of learning based on the 2006–2007 theme, “Living the Catechism.” Children K through 6th grade meet on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month from 10:00 a.m. to noon, from October through May.

Adult Forum

Adults meet at 9:00 a.m. on Sundays in the Fellowship Hall to study together. Bible studies, videos, and guest speakers provide topics for discussion that are relevant to our lives as Christians.

Nursery

A nursery is available during the 10:00 a.m. worship service on Sundays for infants and toddlers up to age four.

Splash

Splash is a nursery roll program for the youngest members of Saint Stephen, infants and toddlers through age three.

First Communion Retreats

First Communion Retreats are provided for children preparing to receive first communion. At Saint Stephen first communion is generally offered to children in second grade, in consultation with the child, parents, and pastor.

Confirmation

Confirmation classes offering instruction on the Bible and the Lutheran tradition are provided for middle school-aged youth. Saint Stephen holds confirmation activities in conjunction with nearby Epiphany Lutheran Church.

Bible Study

There are mid-week Bible Studies for people who wish to learn more about the Bible. One group meets Wednesday evenings at 7:30 at a member’s home. A mid-day group meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 12:30 p.m. at the church. Please contact the church office for more information.

Movie Night

Movie Night takes place four Sunday evenings during the year, following Godsong, the contemporary-style service at 5:00 p.m. Participants view contemporary films and identify and discuss theological themes. Refreshments are served.

The people of Saint Stephen recognize that growing in faith is a life-long process, not just something for children. In addition to the programs for specific age groups, there also are multi-generational events planned occasionally, to bring all ages together to learn from each other. All are welcome!

Throughout the 2008 -2009 school year Saint Stephen will be supporting an ELCA project "Lutheran Schools in the Holy Land." Gifts to enable Palestinian students to receive a Christian education can be put into the little schoolhouse labeled "Hope School" in the entryway to the church.

“And every day, they did not cease to teach and proclaim Jesus as the Messiah.”
